My Painting Journey
An unexpected discovery
About seven years ago, synchronicities and dreams led me to the canvas. As soon as I dipped my paintbrush in blue paint (my favorite color) and made my first stroke, I was mesmerized. Having spent decades working passionately as a home business entrepreneur and as the founder of the What If Foundation, I hadn't imagined that painting would be part of my path. But life surprised me in my mid-50s and now, I feel a clear invitation from my soul to serve as a vehicle for healing images and words. |
A magical and healing process
Each painting is a conversation and when I begin I don't know what image will emerge. I like this mystery. My intention is to surrender to the process of creating from within, listening for what wants to happen, following my intuition, opening to Spirit, and letting my soul lead. I find painting this way magical and sacred. I am deeply grateful to Shiloh Sophia and the Intentional Creativity process of painting and inquiry she teaches. Creating with love and mindfulness is at the heart of each step. Shiloh's guidance helped me discover a way "in" to the voice of my soul and the divine beings, symbols, and messages that want to be expressed. In 2018, I became certified as an Intentional Creativity teacher and am also a member of the International Intentional Creativity Guild, which promotes intuitive artistic expression as a way to make positive change in the world. |
Blessings, prayers, and messages
Painting is a form of meditation and prayer for me. When I begin a painting, I place my hands on the canvas and ask that it be a blessing for others and a vehicle of healing. As I paint, a relationship develops with the image that takes form. It feels alive to me and there is a sense of wonder and mystery as I witness its unfolding. When an image is complete, I listen for a message. You can read some of these messages through the paintings page. |

More Messages
Sometimes I hear short poem-like messages while sleeping or in the magical liminal space, just before waking up. Sometimes they come during the day. They offer guidance and inspiration and speak to me from a place that lies beyond my mind, perhaps "the river beneath the river" as one of my teachers, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes describes in her book Women Who Run with the Wolves. I've shared a selection of these messages on the messages page. |
Proceeds go to What If Foundation
I donate the proceeds I receive from sales made through my Redbubble shop (prints, greeting cards, etc.) to the What If Foundation, a nonprofit I founded 24 years ago that works in partnership with grassroots Haitian organizations in the Ti Plas Kazo neighborhood of Port-au-Prince to provide nutritious meals, education, and healthcare for children and families. |
