She Who Holds the Suffering emerged during a time when my heart was breaking as I watched a contentious Supreme Court nomination.  I went to the canvas for comfort and this image of the Holy Mother came through quickly.  I decided to leave her as she appeared that day, not wanting to paint over the raw emotion.  This painting holds many prayers for the comfort of all who are suffering, especially women and children who have endured trauma and injustice.
